The Stair Party's Response to the Uvalde Tragedy

On May 24, 2022, 18-year-old Salvador Ramos opened fire at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, United States, killing 19 children and two teachers, and wounding 17 others. Earlier that day, he shot and wounded his 66-year-old grandmother.

Possibly one of the most disappointing results of the aftermath of this calamity is the extreme politicization that took place. Moreover, political influencers, politicians, and everyday individuals decided to use the opportunity to make statements about the current Roe v. Wade debate saying that if you can’t be “pro-life” if you do not advocate for gun restrictions. Let’s be clear, this tragedy is not about you. Today is a day to mourn. Today is about those who lost loved ones and experienced the most horrific day of their lives. Today is not about us. The bickering can wait for another day.

It is an extreme disappointment to see that partisanship and polarization has gotten so disastrous that these types of conversations can not even wait for 24 hours. The Stair Party sends their condolences to the families that have been traumatized by the situation and especially those who have lost family members. We are mourning with you.

Stay strong and stay united. We must and we will persevere through the trials and tribulations.
